MY INTENTION!
CRAFTING AN EGG BOX DINOSAUR!
Crafting with recycled materials like egg cartons, isn’t about just being resourceful. It’s about turning something that is ordinary into a masterpiece your kid can be proud of. Making an egg box dinosaur could be a perfect weekend project that’s both fun and kind to the planet.

WHAT’S AHEAD
Here’s the plan: grab an empty egg carton, some paint, glue and scissors, and let the creative juices flow. You start by helping cut the egg carton into dino parts, the body, head and some limbs. Let the kids decide the colours. Maybe a bright blue T-rex or a green stegasaurus. The idea is let them call the shots on their prehistoric friends.
NO WORRIES HOW IT LOOKS!
When it comes to design think of it like a puzzle that opens up to interpretation. No two egg box dinosaurs will look the same and that’s the beauty of it. Encourage your kids to experiment with different shapes and designs and some googley eyes for fun!
EDUCATIONAL VALUE!
HOW CRAFTING ENHANCES CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT!
Craft projects like these are more than just a way to spend an afternoon they’re a powerhouse for developing crucial skills in kids. When little hands get busy, cutting, painting and gluing they are practicing hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills. Every snip, cut and brush stroke enhances their dexterity.
LET KIDS BE CREATIVE!

,Creativity gets a huge boost. Designing their very own dinosaur encourages kids to think outside the box, and let’s face it coming up with a new name for their creation can be just as fun as making it.
This imaginative play fosters innovative thinking and problem solving skills. Who says crafting can’t be as educational as it is entertaining!
SO ARE YOU READY TO CRAFT A EGG-BOX DINOSAUR FOR KIDS?

RESOURCES
- 3-4 15 egg cup boxes.
- Scissors.
- Acrylic paints your choice.
- Paint brushes/plate.
- Glue gun/wax sticks.
- Googly eyes.
- Newspaper to protect tabletop/disposable gloves.
SOME TIPS!
PROTECT CLOTHING.
- Lay newspaper for any painting to be done.
- Have a handy apron or an old shirt to protect the childrens clothes.
- Use disposable glove, as it can get quite messy.
DECIDE THEN CUT.
- Look at egg box and decide what part to tear or cut out and what part of the dinosaur it will be.
- Egg cartons tear very easily so be careful when cutting with scissors, or tearing..
- Make sure to trim all the way around to neaten off straggly bits.
HOT WAX ALERT!
- When gluing with hot wax hold in firmly in place until parts are attached, be careful as wax can burn your fingers.
- If parts become loose after painting, simply use hot wax to glue back in place. Adult guidance will be required as wax can get very hot and burn your fingers. If wax does go on your fingers rub them together and wax will peel off.
PLIABLE & FLEXIBLE.
- This type of material is very flexible and you can bend and glue in place.
AFTER PAINTING!
- After applying the acrylic paints, the egg box may soften up and parts might get loose, so allow to dry and use hot wax to glue back in place.

My grandson saw the pictures I took, of this project and said ‘Hey, these are the bones of a dinosaur!’ And he’s right!

My Grandson made these super dinosaur treats at his nursery. So simple and easy to make.
The first is half a paper plate, and have your child cut or shapes or you cut appropriate shapes and have them stick them encouraging them where should this part go…..it’s the head, the tail and so on.
The second you may need to cut the three toe dinosaur foot and let them paint it. Talk about how different dinosaurs feet are, how big, and show pictures of them on-line.
These are really affordable to make and fun too.

Little minds stay active always. This is a great use of their time and energy through crafts. I especially love that it is a dinosaur-themed project. Keep them engaged and learning early!
Michael
Hi Michael, I agree with your view on keeping little minds active. I work in a school with early years, and find they learn through play whilst being creative. For those that are not too verbal communicate through their work, whether it’s a drawing, a painting, a model or building with blocks, lego or even playing with toy dinosaurs! They still do alot of learning and it’s an opportunity to talk to them while they are proactive! I am so glad you particularly like this dino-themed activity, something that is dear to you!
Thanks for your valued comment.
Happy Crafting!
Julia.😊
Hi Julia,
What a fun and creative site! Building dinosaurs from egg cartons looks fun. The visual instructions are pretty clear and I can see how this project develops and turns into a dinosaur. Providing “some tips” is a great reminder to protect yourself, clothing, and to have a decision of what you want before using scissors. Have you considered doing YouTube tutorials or anything of that nature? Your blog is well written and the website is very clean.
Thanks,
Rich
Hey Rich, I appreciate your super comment! I am glad you enjoyed this project, and maybe pass it on to those who would be interested in having a go with this project or any other for that matter! I have done some You Tube videos, but mainly to compliment my website. I have filmed some demoing how to make, or showing the finish projects if they are animated and how they work with moving parts, but Thanks for the suggestion. Any crafting to be done with children depending on what tools are recommended and the age group may need adult supervision, so it’s a must to highlight that, and glad you spotted that!
Once again thanks for jumping in and having a look!
Happy Crafting!

Hi Julia,
Another really interesting article that I know my friends two boys would absolutely love to work on.
Especially the painting of the dinosaurs when they have been assembled through the egg box work.
I will share this article with them and let you know what they think, and if they do make a start on working on making the dinosaurs.
Thank you for sharing and keep up your amazing work.
All the best,
Tom
Hey Tom, thanks a bunch for your cheerful comment, loving that you will share this project to keen dino-fanatics! So remind them to save their egg-boxes as they will need a few to get going! My grandson has got his eyes on the one I made, as it can be abit delicate if banged or dragged through mountain of toys, so I won’t give in yet I want to admire it a bit more first before I let him get his hands on it! lol
