WHAT ABOUT STEMS?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and it simply means learning through exploring, building, experimenting and asking questions.

Kids love it because it feels like play — but they’re secretly developing problem-solving skills, creativity and confidence at the same time.

It’s a brilliant way to help children understand how the world works while having fun. If you’d like to read more about what STEM really means, here’s a helpful link:

LET’S MAKE A DIY REINDEER TUBE CRAFT FOR KIDS?

     SOME TIPS!

     TO HOLD ALL PARTS
  • Find a smallish brown box with a lid that can hold 4 tubes and odd bits of resources.
     SPONGING
  • Tear a large sponge into small pieces to help sponge paint different colours onto the box.
     CONFIDENT WITH FITTING
  • Practice cutting the tubes to slot and fit into each other. Once you are happy with the fit, you can go ahead and glue them together with hot wax.
     PAINTING
  • Once the reindeer is stuck together, you can create your brown acrylic paint and paint it up.
     PVA LEAVES/GLUING IN PLACE
  • For the leaves not to crumble, if you coat them with PVA glue, allow them to dry; this process will hold them together. These will be your antlers.
     ANTLERS NOSE AND EYES
  • Finally, glue on the antlers (leaves) and nose (pom-pom ball) and googly eyes when the body is painted and dry. Use PVA glue to position parts, then use hot wax; this will secure features in place.
     HOLE AT THE BACK
  • Insert a white tissue into the back hole, smooth it out; this will be the white fluffy area of the reindeer’s bottom. Then carefully paint, grey and brown in parts.

TO CONCLUDE!

In this post, I tried to replicate or show something similar to a Green Kid Crafts box. In this way, I show you how to create an easy rustic gift box that contains resources to make a reindeer.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

Within the box, you can include most of the parts that will create a basic reindeer, adding instructions on how to make it.

The rest are resources that you may already have, like paints, glue, googly eyes and a pom-pom ball.

GREAT HOLIDAY ACTIVITY!

This is a great festive activity that, in itself, is like a gift ready for your kids to get started with and have fun making over the Christmas holidays.

UPCYCLE YOUR RUBBISH!

So hold on to your packaging and tubes, as you will be surprised by how you can transform these throw-away materials into something quite fun!

Here is another fun activity for kids to do. This time, it’s making cool binoculars out of cardboard tubes.

You can make up a box with all parts, like the activity above for the reindeer craft.

This time, kids will have great fun making binoculars, using all the resources provided within the box, and then they can go outside on the hunt to find minibeasts!
